WNIN Public Broadcasting

Project Scope: Complete website overhaul
Technologies: PHP, MySQL, Joomla
Features: Web Design, Content Management System, Social Bookmarking, RSS Feeds, Community Calendar,.

WNIN needed a facelift to their website, and not just a cosmetic update. The design had grown out of date, and it was running on an older content management system that was missing many of the features of current CMS’s. Additionally, their content had been mangled by years of multiple contributors and no style guidelines. Each contributor decided how the text on their page was going to look, and consequently, there were some pages with serif fonts, and some with sans serif, some pages with blue, green, or purple text, some pages with black links and black text. Our goal going into this project was not just to fix the problems with their current site, but to also create a site that would provide them with a strong, and relevant Internet presence built around the Evansville Tri-State community, and their involvement in it.

We gave WNIN a new website from the ground up using Joomla, a solid and extensible open source content management system. We implemented style guidelines, and ensured that there is now a WNIN staff member in charge of adhering to these guidelines. Additionally, the new site allows them to have an RSS feed for their site, news section, Community Calendar, a podcast, and social bookmarking. Their Community Calendar also allows export of calendar events as a CSV, or ICS (ical) format. This site also allows for their viewer to login and post calendar events, and WNIN staff to approve these events before making them live.

This site will allow WNIN to embrace the web like they never have before, and to strengthen their position in the Evansville marketplace. It will help them increase interaction with their viewers, and improve their presentation to the market. By interacting with their viewers better online, WNIN should also increase their membership subscriptions online.
